About Me…

I’m Tammy – a BACP accredited Person Centred Counsellor; the BACP is an organisation set up to ensure counsellors and psychotherapists work within ethical guidelines to enhance and develop therapeutic work. If you want to find out more about the BACP ethics and code of practice you can visit www.bacp.co.uk

I have wide experience in counselling – which includes working with individuals of all ages from many different areas; for example – primary and secondary schools, NHS health centres, prisons, voluntary sectors and private practice – this includes working with people of different cultures.

I believe individuals can be enabled to live more positive lives because of having found a counsellor sensitive to and experienced in working with issues overwhelming them. Deep listening to someone expressing difficult feelings and enables them to feel understood – perhaps for the first time – helping you to discover the underlying causes of what’s troubling you. As you come to see more clearly what is causing you pain and difficulty, managing your feelings will become easier as they will not overwhelm you so much.

Expressing what is troubling you can be the beginning of self discovery. Deciding to begin counselling is an important and positive first step and many people find that counselling helps.

About Therapy…

Person centred counselling is a humanistic, talking therapy. This approach means that you are at the centre of the process and choose what you need to talk about. Experienced counsellors enable you to do this through valuing and respecting you as an individual; enabling expression of your feelings to develop at a pace most comfortable and effective for you.

Counselling helps you to see your feelings more clearly and to understand more about what causes you to feel as you do. It is through clearer understanding that people become able to develop the inner strength needed to move forward in their life because they no longer feel overwhelmed.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What would you like to know about counselling?

Its perfectly normal for you to have questions about counselling and to want satisfactory answers before proceeding. On this page I’ve tried to address some of the most common ones, but if your question or concern is not included here then please do get in touch and I’ll be very happy to help.

What are your fees?

My fee is £37 per hour. I include reductions for student counsellors at £20. If individuals are struggling financially reductions can be discussed at the first session.

Also I offer clinical supervision for counsellors – price £50 for one and a half hours.

How long does it take?

Each session lasts up to sixty minutes. During the initial session we discuss issues you want to bring to counselling, what you hope to achieve and any questions you might have. If you decide the approach is right for you times can be arranged for sessions on a regular basis. How many sessions you decide to come for is up to you.

As an individual you will respond to counselling in your own way. You may find it beneficial after only a few sessions or you may want to continue for longer. The choice is up to you.

What about Confidentiality?

I work within a strict duty of confidentiality. Anything spoken about within a counselling session will remain in strict confidence. The rare exceptions to this will be discussed and agreed upon at the initial session of counselling.

Do you have a code of practice?

My Code of Ethics: I work within the guidelines and code of ethics and good practice with the BACP ethical framework. You can view the ethical framework for good practice at the BACP website.

Supervision: I undergo regular monthly supervision, which is a requirement of all counsellors, aimed at ensuring therapists work to their highest standards.
